Essential Aftercare Principles
Four rules that apply to every protection system.
Whether you had ceramic coating, PPF or both installed at Virtuoso Detailing, these four principles are important. Following them consistently will maximise the lifespan of your protection and ensure your warranty remains valid.
Respect the Curing Period
Every protective film or coating requires time to bond fully. Avoid washing or disturbing the surface for at least 7–14 days after installation. Premature contact can compromise adhesion and long‑term performance.
Hand Wash Only
Automatic car washes with rotating brushes are abrasive and will scratch or lift PPF edges. Always hand wash using the two‑bucket method and a pH‑neutral car shampoo.
Remove Contaminants Quickly
Bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap, and road tar are acidic. Left too long, they can etch into ceramic coatings or stain paint protection film. Remove gently as soon as you notice them.
Schedule Annual Inspections
XPEL and GTECHNIQ warranties require annual checks to remain valid. Book a complimentary inspection at our Almancil studio to keep your coverage active and your protection at its best.

We recommend our simplified approach for aftercare, washing, and maintenance habits, that allow you to care for your vehicle and maintain long-term value.
XPEL Paint Protection Film (PPF)
- Avoid extreme heat, intense, direct sunlight for the first 3-5 days.
- Wait 7 days before first wash to allow full edge adhesion.
- Use a soft microfibre wash mitt and pH‑neutral shampoo.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with a plush microfiber towel.
- Do not apply wax or sealant – the film has a self‑healing top coat.
- If edges lift, contact us immediately; do not pull or trim.
- Pressure wash from at least 30cm distance, avoid direct spray on seams.
Window Tint (XPEL Prime)
- Keep windows rolled up for 3–5 days after installation.
- Do not use ammonia‑based cleaners on interior glass.
- Use a soft microfiber cloth and mild soapy water if needed.
- Small water bubbles will evaporate naturally within 2–4 weeks.
GTECHNIQ Ceramic Coating
- Avoid contact with water for the first 12 hours after application.
- Wait 7 days before first wash; use only a pH‑neutral shampoo.
- Never use abrasive polishes or waxes – they will degrade the coating.
- Use a ceramic‑booster spray every 3–6 months to refresh hydrophobicity.
- Hand dry to prevent water spots; do not use automated dryers.
Maintenance Washing Guide
- Frequency: Every 1–2 weeks for daily drivers.
- Two‑bucket method: One for soapy water, one for rinsing your mitt.
- Drying: Use a forced air blower or soft microfiber towel – never air dry.
- Pressure washer: Keep at least 30cm distance, use 40° fan tip, avoid edges.

Answers to common aftercare queries.
No. Automatic car washes use harsh bristles and strong detergents that can scratch PPF, dull ceramic coatings, and lift edges. We strongly recommend hand washing only.
For PPF, wait at least 7 days. For GTECHNIQ ceramic coating, wait 7 days as well, but avoid high pressure water for the first 14 days. Always hand wash with a pH‑neutral shampoo.
Remove them immediately. Soak a soft microfibre towel in warm water and place it over the spot for a minute to soften, then gently wipe away. Never scrape. Follow with a quick detailer spray if available.
Yes. Both XPEL and GTECHNIQ warranties require an annual inspection by an authorised installer. We will remind you when your inspection is due. It takes about 20 minutes and ensures your coverage remains valid.
Do not use traditional waxes or polishing compounds on PPF – they can stain or degrade the film. For ceramic coatings, avoid abrasive polishes. Use only a dedicated ceramic top‑up spray or PPF‑safe quick detailer.
